Models and Slot Cars from the NEC-RETRO Workshop

1:24 1964 Ferrari 158 - Bandini This model is built from a very unique resin model made by Fernando Pinto of Portugal, who makes some very interesting models. It is a "curbside" model, but the finished model show all the necessary engine details. I forgot to take photos of the kit before I started building it, but the building instructions shows the components. The suspension components is a mix of soft, thin wire and delicate resin parts. The main kit parts is the tub/engine component which is one casting with some wire suspension parts actually cast into the resin. The casting is very well done and very detailed. Here is the tub shown with with all cast components. I have just painted the parts and added the driver, which is made of parts from different sources. The head and torso is from Immense Miniatures, the legs are Tamiya and the arms resin parts. I was very difficult to fit the driver into the very narrow tub, but I like to have a drive...

The Original My Grp Body kit, based on the AMT model with vac formed and resin parts This is the brass plate chassis with German Schöler and homemade parts. Motor is a 18V Bison Lead sledge Decals from e-bay The painted and decalled body + the finished wheels. I mixed the colour myself from red and silver to get as close to the original Apple Candy red metallic. Wheels are 17mm inside alu wheel cut down in width and mounted with foam rubber, hard front and softer rears. I have been loking for this kit for some years as it has not been produced since the early 1960's. I found some on Ebay, but they were too expensive and I even found out that Herb Deeks had been making resin copies of the kit. I since found a couple of kits on Ebay - actually I bought one from Herb Deeks :-) so the next step was to find the right original to choose. The F3 Midget class was popular in Denmark in the late 50's and early 60's and I choose the car that Danish racing icon Gunnar Henriksen "Vognmanden" raced at the time. Gunnar was a well known figure in Danish racing so he was an obvious choise. He first raced Danish build Alfa Dana cars and then Cooper cars from 1956 to 1969. Later he succesfully raced different GT cars, but that is a different story :-) My car is based on his 1958 car which he crashed at Roskilde Ring, but without serious injuries. My way of preparing, decaling and painting clear slot car bodies 1:24 Scale clear body + scissors and Dremel tools for the job Cutting out the wheel arches with the curved Parma scissors or a nail scissors Cutting out the cockpit using both curved scissors, Then the sides and front and rear body. Finally all cutouts are cleaned using a dremel and the tools shown.  It is important that all cuts are smooth and clean to avoid the body cracking in the cuts on impact. Now the body is ready for cleaning Tools of the trade: Scouring Powder, Windows Clean with Ammonia (salmiak) or similar degreaser, fine abrasive papir and toothbrush (wife's preferably) :-) First all cutouts are smoothed with fine sand paper and water The the body is thoroughly cleaned with toothbrush and scouring powder After washing with water, the body is cleaned inside and outside with Windows Cleaner This operation is important to remove any traces of mould oil,...
