1:24 Nissan Skyline Turbo Group 5 Slot Car

1:24 Nissan Skyline Turbo Group 5 Slot Car The 1982 Nissan Skyline Group 5 car was a MONSTER - Low, wide, wild and fire-blowing like a dragon....  ;-) So when you have to choose a car for a Group 5 Slot Car Class - what else could you choose ?? A short moment I thought about the Abarth 1000 TCR Group 5, but our rules demand the Plafit Bison motor which is too huge for the Abarth ;-)  - so I had to go with the Nissan :-) I already have a weak spot for Nissans, so it was not a hard decision :-) I found the Gunze Sangyo kit on Ebay at a decent price and began thinking about the chassis. The rules has a minimum weight of 220g which is much, even with the heavy Bison motor, so I was thinking about making my own chassis from 1,5mm brass plate. German Slotpoint had made a new chassis with rear suspension and lots of possibilities for length and width of the car as well as using both 13D and 18D motors. The Pace chassis use my favourite Schöler parts, wh...

1:24 McLaren M1A CanAm slot car with clear body

1:24 Bruce McLaren Mk1A CanAm slot car The Bruce McLaren car was black with a silver stripe with a thin red edge on each side. Our CanAm slot car class uses clear bodies which are decaled and painted on the inside and I had often wondered how to make the red lines and they are too thin to mask and there is not much room inside this little body. I therefore decided to make some decals to help solve this problem The decals are printed on an ALPS printer which are able to print both white and silver metallic. I decided to include the McLaren and Traco scripts as well as the numbers on the silver decals to make it easier to mount. The front decal is not easy to mount and the silver metallic is brittle and cracks easily. But it is possible with some patience. I mount the decals wet in clear gloss lacquer and seal them when dry with the same lacquer on the back to avoid any paint seeping under. See my toturial on painting and preparing clear bodies on this blog for...

Tutorial - build a 1:24 Retro F1 Chassis

Neckcheese Tutorial: Building a 1:24 Retro F1 chassis Materials: If you are not fond of cutting and drilling a droparm, a piece of 1/16" (1,6mm) 3/4" (19mm) wide brass rod combined with a guide tongue is an easier option Building jig is it necessary ? - yes for me at least. You can actually make one yourself from a piece of old kitchen table, MDF or similar.  You need to drill holes to fix the axles + rails etc  and jig wheels can be made of old sprockets etc. That's the way most of us started. But a "professional" jig like my RGEO is nice to have if you build many chassis and is also great for setting up your other chassis. I am on my second RGEO jig and use it nearly every time i work with my slot cars. Jig wheels are useful to establish the correct axle height. I started out with old Cox sprockets, but are now using some turned in aluminium, which is a nice luxury :-) To get the right diameter - you take your desired w...
